What is it about The Kitchen Table.......
......that gives it so much appeal.

The kitchen table is recognized by many as the 'heart' of the home. It has been used for homework, as a workbench, school science projects,a platform for cooking lessons, keyholder, holder for incoming mail, even a place for prayer, and you can probably come up with your own unconventional uses for this conventional piece of furniture. Being around the kitchen table can seem the most secure, less threatening area of the home.
I did 'in home' sales for a period of time during my school years. Part of the training was, when you entered the home, don't be led to the living room or family room sitting in chairs or couches a great distance apart. Instead, ask if everyone could sit around the kitchen table. The obvious benefit was that you were in close proximity to your 'customers'. The not so obvious benefit was they felt more comfortable, less intimidated in this warm and familiar area. Who feels threatened by the kitchen table? The place of usual conversation over a meal about the day, vacation planning, asking the kids about their day at school. You can probably think of a variety of things you spoke about over filled plates or a freshly cleared tablein the kitchen, right?
I suppose because of all the memories of family gatherings, kids and grandkids through different stages of life, the delicious aromas that fill the rest of the house, all those things that make us feel good inside makes this the ideal communal gatheringplace. I could go on.......but, you know. These paintings (from top to bottom )
are common pieces that can be found on the table, and what I've just written served as inspiration for these paintings which can be found in the 'still life' portion of my website.

Isn't it amazing how an image can ignite a flood of memories racing through our minds of people, places or things
recently or decades ago. Have any 'kitchen table' memories you can share? Feel free to comment.
