When Things go Right

Ever have a week of Mondayzzz's? You know, those days that regardless what you do, how careful you try to be, it seems like you are all thumbs and your shoelaces are tied together.

It's nice to have those days when everything we do just falls into place. We are at the right place at the right time, say the right words in conversation that impress those in the discussion. Good hair day, clothes fit well, socks match, no breakfast goodies down the front of your shirt. It's as if you're King/Queen for a day!

Then for the rest of us are those days when nothing seems to go right. No matter how much you try to get it together, you're the tuxedo with a pair of brown shoes. I have been having days like that with my art. Nothing earth shattering, just little aggravations that follow you from place to place such as:

Can't find the right size canvas I know is around here someplace.

Staring at the white canvas wondering what to put on it.

Thinned the paint too much for what I want to do.

Taking a short break from the studio for a cup of coffee, which I spill all over the floor.

Sigh.

So finally I decide it would be best to take a walk......just to clear my head.

Walking down the street really not thinking of anything, just feeling the frustration, I see this sign. As I read the sign, I'm thinking 'that's not right. That's not supposed to be what it says'.

I may not know what it is supposed to say, but I do know what it's not supposed to say.

So I stop in my tracks and stood there, staring at the sign slightly confused for a moment. Then a thought entered my mind. Does this describe me? Is this where I was headed on a day I planned to be in the studio creating a painting, but instead was out here looking at a sign that was criticizing me for it?

One thing I realized as I started walking again. That message has no future in it.

Everyone has faced some tough times and some tough decisions over the past year. May seem like nothing is the same so why bother with the daily routine when it is a routine we didn't want in the first place. We all have frustrations, but it can get really rough if we give in to the thought of I "Don't Care". I walked back to my studio, made a cup of coffee, (which I didn't spill this time), grabbed a canvas paying no attention to its size, and started covering the white canvas with beautiful colors, all of which had been there all along. It felt good having purpose. We all have purpose. Sometimes we just need a little nudge. Some little sign (literal or figurative) as a gentle reminder to rekindle those special qualities of what makes us unique.

Electric Summer

If my above painting sums up your attitude for the day, concentrate on moving forward. Take a comb and brush and create beautiful hair, take a canvas and paint and create beautiful art. Take the day and do something different and create a beautiful memory. If you can do none of the above, then just go smile at someone, let them wonder what you've been up to. Anything is better than wasting away in a chair or walking aimlessly down a street thinking I "Don't Care".

When we do care is when progress is made and things get done.

A Wise Man Once Said:

"If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame." Even if it is yourself.
